Stuff I’m Into These Days

Books, makeup, travel, all the things

👋 Hi my name is Roslyn, I’m a 2x founder and executive coach. I help founders fall in love with building their companies again. Learn about working 1:1 here.

Hi there,

I’m not gonna lie. I didn’t have the energy in me to write a full deep dive for the newsletter today!

I’m on day 2 of my cycle which means I’m tired and have been for the last few days. I’ve been playing a bit of catch up coming off a coaching retreat I attended last week, which has meant squishing more coaching into less days.

Plus I was late making my coffee this morning so as I type this with under two hours to my newsletter send time, the caffeine is ONLY JUST STARTING to hit my veins.

My inner perfectionist is displeased with me breaking my streak of delivering a thoughtfully written, high value deep dive to you every Tuesday for the last six months.

But, I’m trying to do this thing where I don’t burn myself out just because a younger part of me is still scared that I won’t be loved if I’m not perfect. (Instead I’m building a loving, compassionate relationship with her!).

I’m sure you understand, and aren’t too upset, right? Maybe there’s somewhere in your own life you could give yourself a bit of grace with as well?

So today, I thought I’d use this newsletter to catch you up on a few of the things I’m into lately - books I’ve been reading, inner work I’ve been doing, products I’ve been trying.

Ok before we get into the fun stuff, I’d love to know how my newsletter content has been hitting for you and what you’d like to see more of.

INNER WORK

I believe a key part of being a great coach is doing my own inner work, so that I can meet my clients at the depth they’re at.

Here are the things that have been supporting me on that journey:

  • Aletheia Coaching Program. You guys this program has changed my life. Not even being dramatic. In coaching programs, you have to experience the methodology yourself before you can coach others in it. And this process has allowed me to access and connect with a much deeper version of myself, a part of me that feels more connected to the universe, that is so present, wise and compassionate that it actually makes me cry to write this because it has been so healing and completely changed how I see and move through the world. Aletheia teaches you to coach at four depths: the depth of parts, the depth of process, the depth of presence and absence, and the depth of non-dual presence. (I don’t get to learn that last one for a couple of years but I’m excited). If you are at all considering becoming a coach this is a really beautiful program to consider. And if you want to work with someone that can help you access that deeper part of you, find an Aletheia coach (or HMU!).

  • Breathwork. I’ve been doing 5-15 minutes of breathwork in the morning and it’s really helped set the tone for my day. I’ve been using this incredible breathwork playlist. I start with a three-part breath: one breath into the belly, one into the chest, one breath out, repeat right away. I’ll do that for 7-12 mins depending on how I’m feeling and then maybe move into some longer holds (breathe in and hold it for as long as you can, breathe out and hold it for as long as you can, before moving into regular breathing). And then after that I’ll allow myself to drift into meditation. I personally find it a lot easier to get into meditation through either breathwork or Parts work than just starting with meditation cold. I used to think meditation just wasn’t for me, but now I’ve realized it can be! I just needed to find what works.

  • Podcasts. I LOVE listening to podcasts that help expand the narratives that live in my brain and run my subconscious lol. Considering a lot of what we take in (social media, media, even some of the people in our lives) aren’t supportive to our highest way of being, I love to use podcasts to reset my mindset and remind myself what’s possible. Lately I’ve been loving Joe Hudson’s Art of Accomplishment podcast (he’s a renowned business coach who always shifts my perspective) and Scott Britton’s Evolution.FM. Martha Beck’s recent episode made me cry lol.

  • Book: It’s Gonna Get Messy. My friend Becca Eve Young wrote this memoir, and it made me laugh, cry, and feel spiritually cracked open. Her raw honesty and beautiful storytelling pulled me in, I literally couldn’t put it down and read it in a week. I saw so much of myself in her journey, which was both comforting and illuminating. One minute I was cringing at the drinking and dating stories, the next I was ready to book a silent retreat. Highly recommend it.

  • Book Launch: I’m so excited to be headed to Amanda Goetz’s Pub Day party tomorrow for her book Toxic Grit: How to Have It All and (actually) Love What You Have, which comes out TODAY! I’ve been so expanded watching her step into being an author on a topic that is deeply meaningful to both her and so many women: how to honor both ambition AND joy in a culture that places so much expectation on us.

PSYCHEDELIC PREP

I’m doing a psilocybin journey in a few weeks and so have been doing my research on psychedelic healing and how to prepare.

  • How to Change Your Mind by Michael Pollan. I just finished this book and thought it was a balanced, fascinating read on the history of psychedelic therapy, the author’s own experiences, and the research around its healing potential. Pollan explains how psychedelics quiet the brain’s default mode network—the part responsible for our inner narrator and sense of self—allowing the mind to break free from rigid thought patterns. This can create a profound sense of unity, release, and renewal. I found it deeply hopeful and it makes me really excited to try it.

  • Essential Intentions. I loved this article around setting intentions for a psychedelic journey. It talks about how rather than asking the medicine to ‘fix us’ or help us achieve external outcomes rooted in a sense of deficiency, that we might instead consider asking it to show us qualities of being - like clarity, strength, joy, trust and forgiveness - that already exist within us.

It’s worth noting: studies show that the effects on the brain we see with psychedelics (a decrease in brain activity in the default mode network) is similar to the effects we see from meditating. So if psychedelic healing doesn’t call to you, know that it’s still possible to see the same benefits from deep meditation.

FRIENDS & COMMUNITY

I wrote a newsletter six months ago about how to find friends and community in adulthood. Since then I’ve really been calling in aligned friendships and community.

One thing that really helps is joining communities that resonate with you. Here are a few that I’ve been enjoying:

  • Within Walks: Ok starting with my own here because I basically created this because I was seeking more deep and meaningful conversations with female founders who are building consciously. So I started a bi-weekly Friday walk series where we grab coffee, walk along the Hudson River and go deep on a theme (topics like blocks in our businesses, timelines and feeling “enough”). If you’re in NYC, join us for our next one. Join our WhatsApp group to be notified about future ones.

  • Coaching Corner: I find it really helpful to be in community with other coaches! Not only are they on a similar path in terms of businesses they’re building, but they are usually quite deep, reflective, kind people on their own healing journeys so I find I really connect with them. Coaching Corner is amazing for this. I just got back from the retreat they hosted last week and it was such a beautiful experience. Here’s our group.

  • Becoming Collective: I just joined this community for soul-healing (!) that offers rituals and guidance on spirituality and somatics. I’ve been looking for a more spiritual community and am excited to meet others on this path! The membership launches officially in Jan.

TRAVEL

I LOVE New York so much, it really feels like home. HOWEVER, I find I really need to get out of the city and into nature every so often to feel like myself. Here are a few of the spots:

  • Upstate NY: I was just there for a most wonderful coaching retreat at Lifebridge Sanctuary, which was a beautiful retreat space and absolutely lovely this time of year. Earlier this year I attended a female founder retreat also upstate, and in the spring I visited Hudson, East Windham, Rhinebeck and Kingston. I love that it’s quite accessible to the city and home to lots of retreat centers, ashrams, and meditation centers.

  • North Fork: Until recently, I’d spent more time on the South Fork of Long Island (aka the Hamptons). I was drawn to the combination of the ocean and the wooded areas - it kind of feels like a best of both worlds to me - and also the scene of it all if I’m honest. North Fork is a less trendy and upscale than the Hamptons. It has more farms and wineries, less famous residents and visitors, but still quite cute towns and beautiful nature. My husband and I are actually considering buying a home together there so we could have some year-round access to nature which is both incredibly exciting and a bit scary lol!

Moongazing at sunset on the North Fork. What could be dreamier?

  • Spain: We were in Spain this year for a friend’s wedding and absolutely fell in love with Mallorca and Ibiza! Mallorca is just an incredible combination of beaches, mountains and cute little towns, but also a very high concentration of incredible food and just a touch of beach clubs / nightlife depending where on the island you go. With Ibiza, I was expecting the DJ house music party vibes but what I wasn’t expecting was the almost spiritual feeling parts of the island that left me feeling like “oh wait I could live here for part of the year… and I actually kind of want to”.

  • Costa Rica: I’m headed to Costa Rica this November for a yoga, meditation, and spiritual retreat at Blue Spirit Resort, before working from Nosara for a week. I can’t wait. It’s kind of one of those places I feel drawn to and have a good feeling about (kind of how I felt about NYC before moving here!), so I’m excited to be there for two weeks.

Okay damn reading that list back I am feeling SO lucky and grateful.

STUFF

Alright, to me this is intentionally last on the list since I don’t think stuff is what actually makes us happy on the whole. But some stuff… it does make me happy! It’s pleasing, or useful. Or enhances what’s already going well in my life or helps me solve problems. These are some of those things.

BEAUTY

When it comes to beauty I’m all about asking the question “What can make me look presentable enough in the least amount of time invested?”. I find I'm more likely to create Instagram reels (which is… you know, helpful for my business), if I think I look cuter. So here’s what’s been helping.

  • Sweed Eyelash Growth Serum: I don’t really like wearing mascara, it’s annoying to take off. I’ve been using this eyelash serum at night and my eyelashes actually are getting noticeably longer, which is nice. I’m more often just curling my lashes instead of putting on mascara.

  • Hourglass Mascara: Okay but when I do wear mascara it’s this one. Because it comes off SO EASILY. It kind of peels off, instead of melting and leaving those big dark circles that don’t come off. So I have been loving this one.

  • Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter: It actually makes you look like you have an Instagram filter on… sometimes I put on only this if I’m going to film an IG and I find it’s all I need!

  • Dyson Air Wrap: Perhaps not the most original recommendation and definitely an investment, but as someone that has very straight hair, this has been so easy to use and really elevated my hair game in a way that makes me feel more confident in the times I do dress up and try to look nice.

FASHION

  • I just spent all of my fall shopping budget at Select Vintage's fall pop-up this past weekend. The founder. Justine, is a friend and she is EXCELLENT at curating extremely chic pieces. Plus who doesn’t want to support the circular economy. She also offers style boxes, including ‘bridal boxes’ of specially selected vintage bridal items and accessories which I just gifted to my sister who is a bride next year!

I bought this chic little watch at Select Vintage’s fall popup. Cute, non?

  • Speaking of the circular economy, if you’re not using Pickle yet, where ya been? Especially if you’re in the wedding guest / bachelorette guest era. Pickle is the way to have unique, fashionable pieces for every event without having to buy something new. It's a (female founded ofc) peer-to-peer clothing rental service and there are some AMAZING pieces on there. Also a great call for Halloween.

FOOD & BEVERAGES

  • Brez: As someone who’s been lightly exploring sober curiosity my NA drink of choice is Brez’s Lemon Enderflower Flow drink with Lion’s Mane, Cacao, Black Seed Oil & L’Theanine.

  • Wava Water: This is a delicious caffeinated sparkling water (and female founded brand)! I’ve been finding it perfect for a lunchtime pick me up - it has half the caffeine of a cup of coffee so it doesn't mess with my sleep.

  • Céleste Wellness: Céleste (also female-founded) creates indulgent supplements using high quality superfoods and powerful botanicals. I just got some of their honey and chocolates. I love their brand ethos of presence and pleasure.

ELECTRONICS

  • Brick: A brick is this little magnet you tap your phone against and it limits your access to certain apps on your phone. I’ve been bricking my phone around bedtime and throughout the workday and it’s been helping me limit my screen time and focus more than any screen time apps have. No more picking up my phone when I get bored or want to distract. And no more checking my email or social media “just one last time” before bed.

  • Oura: My oura ring is truly something I couldn’t live without. Especially with burnout recovery, energy and hormone balancing being a focus these past couple of years, their sleep tracking, readiness, stress tracking and cycle tracking have been transformative.

Okay that’s it. Please scroll to the bottom to let me know if you liked this style of newsletter - if people do, maybe I’ll pop them in once a quarter. If not, I’ll be back next week with a deep dive on building!

WITHIN WALKS

We’re hosting our next female founder coffee walk this Friday. These walks are a chance to get some fresh air (and coffee!), move your body and have meaningful conversations with other founders who are going through it.

This walk is about feeling "enough":

  • When was the last time you hit a big milestone and how long did you actually let yourself feel proud before moving the goalpost?

  • Whose definition of “enough” are you measuring yourself against right now?

  • If you can’t go into the future or past for proof, what if anything is “not enough” about who you are right now?

  • If you improved everything you think you need to improve to be enough, what would you need then to be enough?

  • If you stopped comparing your progress to those around you, what might feel enough about where you are today?

  • When you push yourself harder, what are you hoping to proveand to whom?

  • What would it look like to be ambitious from a place of purpose and inspiration, rather than a feeling of inadequacy?

You can find out more about the event and RSVP here.

  • 1:1 Coaching: Want to go into 2026 feeling clear, grounded and supported? Book a free coaching consultation to learn how we can work together.

  • Let’s be friends: on LinkedIn and Instagram. I share more startup content and what’s going on behind the scenes there.

  • Finally, tell me how you liked this newsletter. I read every piece of feedback.
